En intervenant sur des portraits issus des sphères royales — empereurs, nobles, figures du pouvoir masculin — à l’aide de procédés d’effacement et de glitch numérique, elle perturbe leur autorité visuelle et interroge leur place dans la mémoire collective.Alors que Various Artists a créé des portraits « détoxifiés » des figures centrales de Naufrage 12–32 — une vaste archive réunissant des articles sur la ville de Calais et ses environs pendant la crise migratoire européenne entre 2012 et 2032 — ces œuvres se concentrent principalement sur les responsables politiques impliqués dans des processus décisionnels ayant affecté des milliers de vies. Les portraits déstabilisent leur autorité et invitent le public à reconsidérer leur rôle, non pas comme icônes du pouvoir, mais comme individus impliqués dans un système complexe, souvent déshumanisant. Elle combine images, sons et symboles, accompagnés d’une bande sonore simple, captée sur le vif, où les chants des oiseaux de la forêt atlantique occupent une place centrale. Les images, évoquant des photographies au mouvement à peine perceptible — un hommage à Bill Viola —, ont été filmées lors d’un voyage au Brésil. L’autel, orné de motifs floraux, de perles, de coquillages, de papillons, de graines et de nuances de rose et de bergamo, incarne la richesse et la diversité des émotions familiales. Mars 2024 / La vidéo-installation-sculpture Exposition collective : « Tenir le fil, casser le fil / Galerie Flux / Liège-BE // Commisaire Nadine Janssens « “La vidéo-installation" Manheee" de Babi Avelino, se compose d’une « potale » en bois et d’une vidéo tournée lors de son dernier voyage au Brésil. Les potales sont des autels ou des niches, communes en Wallonie, accueillant des figures de la Vierge Marie. Artiste brésilienne installée en Belgique, Babi a dû recréer ici le village qu’elle n’a pu emporter dans ses bagages, tout en continuant à tisser, par écrans interposés, les liens qui la relient à sa mère, la grand-mère de son fils. Ce voyage réalisé en octobre 2023 au Brésil, après 6 ans d’absence, a été l’occasion de passer du virtuel au réel, de la distance à la présence, de l’invisible au palpable, entre sa mère et elle, entre son fils et sa grand-mère, pour célébrer la transmission de la vie et la vie de la transmission. Les portraits de famille vidéo qu’elle en a ramenés figent, dans une nature exubérante et mouvante, les liens et les relations en même temps qu’ils questionnent le rapport au temps : peut-on vraiment le suspendre pour saisir, « une bonne fois pour toutes » le bonheur et l’amour ?" Conçu en collaboration avec l’artiste Ronald Dagonnier, ce projet marque la première étape d’un cycle de créations autour de robotino.a, une créature mécanique en constante transformation. À ce jour, quatre versions de robotino.a ont vu le jour, chacune enrichissant et développant l’exploration entamée par les artistes. L’installation originale utilisait des photos et vidéos de leur relation amoureuse comme matière première, exhumées cinq ans après leur rencontre. Le bras robotisé, équipé d’une caméra, capturait les images des photographies disposées au sol et les projetait au mur, composant un montage visuel oscillant entre tendresse, frustration, joie et tristesse. Erratique dans ses mouvements, la machine donnait l’impression d’une tentative désespérée de comprendre les émotions humaines, tandis que les spectateurs, immergés dans l’espace, partageaient son point de vue. En mai 2025, le projet s’est prolongé sous la forme d’une performance singulière à Overflow gallery. À la croisée des arts numériques et du théâtre d’objets, cette création vivante explorait notre rapport aux mondes artificiels et aux émotions qu’ils éveillent. Chaque scène dévoilait une facette nouvelle du voyage de robotino.a, oscillant entre rêve et réalité, entre technologie et poésie. Le live se déployait en sept chapitres, comme autant d’escales dans une traversée sensible d’une trentaine de minutes : Chapitre 01 : dans l’œil de sa webcam, robotino.a arpente un désert miniature, paysage fragile et intime. Chapitre 02 : son regard se tourne vers le public, qu’il effleure et reconnaît, tissant un lien d’images et de visages. Chapitre 03 : une myriade de souvenirs se déploie à l’écran, fragments de la vie des deux artistes devenant matière vivante. Chapitre 04 : l’espace qui l’accueille s’anime, révélé par un scan en trois dimensions qui fait vibrer la salle elle-même. Chapitre 05 : un voyage sur Google Earth commence au lieu du live, rejoint Liège — la ville de jeunesse de Ronald Dagonnier — puis São Paulo — celle de Babi Avélino. Enfin, un lent dézoom dévoile la Terre dans son infinie distance. Chapitre 06 : une planète composée d’images intimes se forme et respire avec la bande sonore, comme un organisme en expansion. Chapitre 07 : retour sur Terre. Des images de destruction en Palestine se mêlent aux danses de femmes palestiniennes. De leurs mouvements surgissent des particules en trois dimensions, éclats de mémoire et de résistance. de la langue des peuples indigènes du tronc tupi qui signifie "terre des palmiers".&nbsp; C’est aussi le nom par lequel les indigènes désignaient le Brésil avant l’arrivée des portugais.&nbsp; Une installation composée de 150 petits autels, tous uniques, créés grâce à l'impression 3D et inspirés des influences des peuples indigènes du Brésil. Cette installation explore les frontières culturelles et temporelles, s'inscrivant dans la continuité des recherches artistiques récentes de l'artiste qui se passionne de plus en plus pour l'intégration des nouvelles technologies et le croisement des disciplines. À travers cette installation, Babi aspire suscite une réflexion sur notre perception du temps tout en mettant en évidence l'importance de la diversité culturelle et des territoires souvent réduits à des stéréotypes par l'Occident et les institutions religieuses. Il s'agit d'une démarche visant à décoloniser nos perceptions, tout en considérant l'Amazonie, avec sa population, comme un symbole universel et emblématique, agissant comme un indicateur de la santé de notre planète. Ce qui intéresse l'artiste, c'est le mélange des influences culturelles et des disciplines pour créer un dialogue sur notre monde en perpétuelle évolution. Dans un contexte anthropologique, le terme mameluco désigne un individu métis, né d’un parent amérindien et d’un parent européen. Dans ce carrefour culturel, l’artiste détourne objets et images – jouets, figurines, photographies retravaillées numériquement – pour créer un autel chargé de symboles, à la manière d’un cabinet de curiosités. Pour cette sculpture, elle réincarne Yemanjà, déesse de la mer, la figurine du jaguar symbolise le messager entre les mondes spirituels et terrestres selon les peuples indigènes, et la Vierge noire représente le métissage culturel brésilien. La sculpture combine fleurs en plastique, pierres, rubans et piments séchés, recréant un labyrinthe culturel où spiritualité, mémoire et imaginaire collectif se rencontrent. Cette œuvre fait rayonner la fusion des croyances et rend hommage à la richesse du patrimoine brésilien et belge, tout en reflétant l’univers personnel et esthétique de l’artiste. Sep 2025 22:37:28 +0000 Babi Avelino https://babiavelino.cargo.site/Illuminations IlluminationsInstallation vidéo2020 LIEN VIMEO : Illuminations Réalisée entre 2017 et 2020, « Illuminations » est une vidéo-installation où Babi Avelino, revisite ses archives visuelles pour les mêler à des images récentes. Illuminations, présentée dans le cadre du projet InnerSpace avec 39 artistes, s’intègre harmonieusement au salon XVIIIᵉ siècle du Grand Curtius, dont le décor majestueux et lumineux reste intact. La vidéo, de petit format, est suspendue comme un cadre flottant au cœur du trou noir de la cheminée, invitant le spectateur à se pencher et à se laisser absorber par les images délicates, mêlant scènes d’amour et instants intimes, ainsi que par le son qui enveloppe l’installation. L’œuvre s’inspire du romantisme de la salle et de la pendule représentant Paul et Virginie, alternant images en kaléidoscope et extraits de films romantiques pour évoquer la mémoire, la nostalgie, la force des sentiments amoureux et la recherche d’espoir. Entre introspection et contemplation, Illuminations célèbre la lumière comme métaphore du lien humain et du regard sensible porté sur le monde. Octobre 2020 / Vidéo Installation «Illuminations » / Projet InnerSpace / Musée Grand Curtius / Liège, Be “Liégeoise d’adoption, Babi Avelino est une vidéaste originaire de São Paolo. Elle présente une installation vidéo baptisée "illuminations" dans le salon aux palmiers dorés très " siècle des lumières" de l’hôtel particulier de Hayme de Bomal… Le décor de la salle 18e siècle du musée a séduit l’artiste brésilienne : "j’y ai découvert une pendule de la collection Duisberg "avec les figures du roman "Paul et Virginie". Ce côté romantique, m’a inspiré une vidéo où j’alterne des images de la salle en kaléidoscope et des extraits de films romantiques que j’ai visionnés pendant le confinement. Ce siècle des Lumières représente pour moi un réel moment d’espoir dans l’histoire mondiale dans une période où on en manque."
